SENSEI IMAN 2016 KARATETIPS 4:Ada apa dengan HYPER???

[Karatetips 4: Ada apa dengan HYPER?]
OR YOU MEAN "HYPER-ACTIVE"?
Selalu terdengar orang cakap macam ni.
Especially bila anak-anak dia nakal dan tak dengar cakap.
Aduhai.

Bukan berikan persepsi membuta tuli.
Mari bantu anak2 cari potensi diri.
Bukan sekadar menuding jari mereka nakal tak henti-henti.

OLYMPIC GOLD 2012

Os, hisashiburi!

I remembered when I was in the Malaysian Squad, we trained in National Karate Squad training camp in Bukit Jalil.

When I first time stepped in the dojo, many surprising motivational features that indeed will inspire any 1 who read/look at it.
Among all, the elite squad have their own wall/section, where they posted their motivational quotes/pictures/items and target that they want to achieve.
But in front of the dojo, where the main whiteboard is placed, and where we line up for  the morning mokuso, there was a quote that sound scary but certainly a true 'jodan mawashi geri' to all of us.
"U ARE TRAIN TO WIN GOLD MEDALS NOT TO TRAIN AND TRY." It signifies how important a target in our life. And this become the pillar of the OBJECTIVE TRAINING in Bukit Jalil.

Having train for about 10 hours per day, i.e 7.30 am to 12.30 pm.3.30 pm to 5.30 pm and 8.00 pm to 11 pm at night in our respective styles dojo with own senseis, indeed I have managed to 'shinsei'-ing my heart:), i.e. making myself to reach the level of sincerity and to do it for myself, and to serve as an acceptable ibadah to Allah, the Almighty.

Regardless how my legs were 'crying' (can be read as 'injured, blistered, etc:), and how my body 'sms-ing'  me to stop (now you can read yourself:), but i kept on pushing until I reached my target when I won medals for my country.

Above is just a lil' experience sharing, especially for my enthusiastic students and champion wannabes, amin!

The gists I would like to highlight:

1. Never think we are the best, i.e. if got bronze, at least there is karateka who got silver; if we got silver, definitely there is champion who get gold, which  he is the best karateka for that event. Remember, good, better, BEST;

2. Train hard and sincerely each seconds you are in the dojo, and out of dojo. coz nothing comes easy, as how the GREAT WALLof China was built by the citizens of the Emperor Shih Huang Ti, and how the China team retain to be the CHAMPION of OLYMPIC GAME till now;

3. Always remain humble to ensure we can 'berlapang dada' in obtaining knowledge from our Sensei, therefore, MUST COME TO DOJO as it is the avenue for us to reach the wholesomeness of being Karateka, among all to get good kihon and good budo;

4. Imagine that what we are training today, is always so little as compared to what your sensei has gone through in his time. they have faced more 'hell' than us in order to reach his 'paradise' of performance, achievement and reputation as what we observe today; and

5. Your journey never ends, even if you get  GOLD, and even if you eventually got SHODAN, as there are much more to  know as your karate journey is just begun. (Remember: White-purple= imitation of the teachings. Brown=Comprehension of the teachings. Black and above= Continuous application and pursuit of the meaning of the teachings)

Thus students, and reminder to all of us, remember all above Item 1-5.

Indeed being good athlete is one of our endeavour, apart of (A)being a good character martial artist with full application of karate-do principle, spirit and good karate-do techniques, (B) obtaining good health and (C) Self Defence guru, eventually to be a WHOLESOME KARATEKA.

"Karate-do is not only about winning the competition, is about the perfection of the character of the practitoner"

Till then, see your sensei in the dojo!!! Gambatte minna! :)

SUKMA 2012 & KEDAH OPEN 2012: PROPER PLAN+PROPER EXECUTION(RISE UP)=SUCCESS!

SUKMA 2012 telah melabuhkan tirai. Terengganu skali lagi juara keseluruhan. Congrats skuad 'peteh'.

Indeed it was a healthy competition.

So guys, anda semua umpama The Dark Knight Rises! MORE SUCCESS IN SUKMA 2014!Amin...

KARATE-DO, WHAT DO WE GET???

OS! HISASHIBURI ("LONG TIME NO SEE")
Yes. The interest is coming again. So now you all may read and enjoy this blog, once more!

In last dojo training, in the final speech(as usual in the last seiza before we end the class), according to my 20 years experience in Karate-do, I have concluded that followings 4 things that we will gain in learning Karate-do:
1) The martial art itself (do,waza, etc.)
 2) Self defence
3) Fitness (overall body health)
 4) Combat sports (shiai Kumite, shiai kata)

Thus, never ever focus on one thing and put another in isolation.

To be a wholesome karate-ka, LEARN ALL, EXCEL IN ALL.

Finally, we are not only martial artist, neither self defence guru, also neither fitness trainee/trainer and what more atletes per se; but we are="KARATE-KA"

Let's think about it.

Till then,

gAmbatte!

SPORTS KUMITE

SALAM & HISASHIBURI DES NE!
VERY LONG VACATION INDEED NOW THE HOLIDAY FROM CONTRIBUTING IDEAS IN THIS BLOG IS OVER. I AM BACK THANK U FOR CONTINUING YOUR SUPPORT TO ME.
SPORTS KUMITE
As we all know, karate-do nowadays embodied by two main arts i.e. the KATA (literally means ‘form’) & KUMITE (sparring). Above all both kata & kumite comes from the KIHON WAZA (Basic techniques) that usually called only ‘kihon’.
Today, I would like to share on ‘KUMITE’. Basically, kumite is the division of karate- that focusing on application of each techniques or waza in karate. In the older days, apart from training the KATA as a
‘set of pre arranged movements that combined all vital techniques in a very sophisticated art and performance, as a mean of a ‘complete tool’ for the practitioner whenever facing the threat or danger in the future’,
the KUMITE aspect of the kata i.e. the BUNKAI (APPLICATION) are also need to be properly trained with a partner.
The training of BUNKAI give rise to the idea of IPPON KUMITE (ONE STEP SPARRING), which is done alternately by the partners whereby one side will attack and one side will defend. This will increase our ZANSHIN (ALERTNESS) & KIME (CONCERNTRATION of muscle and energy) and eventually attain the perfection in the particular WAZA (TECHNIQUES)
Another angle that we should know other than the IPPON KUMITE is there is also JIYU KUMITE (FREE KUMITE) whereby partners can use any techniques to attack or defend but still WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE TRADITIONAL KARATEDO WAZA (TECHNIQUES) such as tzuki, mae geri, uke and so on.
However, after 70’s when the emergence of World Karatedo Championship of WUKO till WKF, the JIYU KUMITE that was highlighted as one of the event apart from kata observed many ‘revolution’ in term of style and techniques that can be applied.
Among all is, let say when the real JIYU KUMITE concern on the execution of real ZUKI(punch) and real UKE (block) , this revolutionized tournament jiyu kumite applied the ‘punch and pull back’ technique, with the idea to decrease the injury. Hence the award of points such as IPPON (1 POINT), NIHON (2 POINTS) & SANBON (3POINTS) indeed make people would like to find the best techniques that could be benefited to get the highest point.
Although the guideline given by WKF is that it must be in the ambit of ‘traditional karate-do techniques’ , the exposure to various other martial arts eventually makes that there are several ‘new’ techniques are also considered as ‘karate-do kumite tehcnique’ such as URA MAWASHI GERI, UCHI MAWASHI GERI and so on.
Moreover, due to the scoring criteria where among all is the speed (of punch/kick and pull back), it makes the blocking techniques are almost impossible to be done. Can we imagined we can properly traditionally YOKO UKE, a lightning fast speed of GYAKU TZUKI that be pulled back right after ‘touch’ our body??? It is almost impossible, right? Perhaps the only available is just GEDAN SHOTEI UKE or any open hand tapping block technique but not exactly traditional karate-do technique.
Hm.. from here we can see the two sides of coins. At the good part is that, jiyu kumite tournament become a safe avenue for a fighting contest, less injuries and several new techniques were adopted into modern karate-do to equip the scoring requirement to win in the competition.
NEVERTHELESS, the sad part are, the close/ near/short range fighting technique such as URA TZUKI, TATEKEN TZUKI, FURI TZUKI are no more applicable. Besides, the focus is only to score and to win, without thinking abot preserving the beautiful and classic arts of karate. Besides, could us imagine if those champions be attacked in the street, could they actually defend themselves with this kind of kumite? I doubt so.
From these all ‘occurrence’ the term ‘SPORT KUMITE IN KARATE’ was come into being at early 90’s which actually concern on tournament jiyu kumite but not the traditional one. And slowly many karatekas and schools that only focus on this aspect came up, and put into the development of traditional in isolation.
Even in Malaysia, those schools even hypnotized and confused public mind by saying that the karate that there are training is the real karate. Hmm..by only punching and kicking, without focusing on the essence of karate-do such as kihon training, ippon kumite training and what more kata and bunkai training, the person already considered as ‘KARATE KA’ and even granted 1ST DAN BLACK BELT sensei??? This is pathetic and indeed a tragedy.
Therefore, let us take the example of Japanese Karate kas, regardless how far they go in ‘SPORT KARATE’ they are still hold firm on the root of the traditional karate-do training. No wonder most of older grand masters said in the words that could be read in the books or articles in the websites, “I MIGHT LOSE TO A YOUNG CHAMPION OF SPORT KARAE, BUT HE WILL DEFINITELY LOSE IF WE ARE TO FIGHT USING TRADITIONAL KARATEDO KUMITE” .true..very true.
As one of my mentor, Sensei Mizan said,”Sport Kumite in Karate is about SPEED & PRECISION” . While I would continue that, “TRADITIONAL KARATE-DO IS ABOUT APPRECIATING THE VALUES AND THE BENEFITS OF THE TECHNIQUES AND THE TRAINING AS A WHOLE..”
So we should be balanced. Could not only develop too much in Sport Karate by only concerning, tournament, tournament and tournament , without care to go deep down to the root of the Karate-do, that only could be obtained in the DOJO TRAINING.

IMPORTANCE OF KIHON KATAs

In Shito-ryu, kihon kata 1-4 (moto dachi as well as neko ashi dachi) were designated for 9th kyu -white belt

and 8th kyu -yellow belt.

Being placed as the 'basic kata' or the first katas (which is the movement of direction will create the alphabet 'I' if be done from beginning till the end), they need to be familiarized by all shito-ryu karate kas, indeed it contains a lot of significance.

As for kihon kata (moto dachi) 1-4, i.e. or pronounce as 'kihon kata dai ichi dosa' and respectively '....dai ni dosa', 'dai san dosa' &dai yon dosa indeed a good 'instalation' for the new comers to familiarise themselves with basic stance (dachi), blocks (uke), kick (geri), and punch (tzuki) that applicable in Karate-do. As for kihon kata (moto dachi), of course the stance focused is the walking stance that most of the time be used in every day life hence it is quite a 'shizen tai' or natural stance for each of us and the punch technique is chudan tzuki or the normal straight punch

The only difference between all 1, 2, 3, 4 kata is the block: in dai ich dosa or no.1, the basic uke is yoko uke (middle outward block), and no. 2, the yoko uke together with mae geri (front kick) no.3, gedan barai (lower strike a.k.a hara uke or lower stomach block) and lastly no. 4, the block is age uke (upper block).

And for the kihon kata (neko ashi dachi) or cat stance version, I guess u know what is the different with the earlier one:-) Of course! the stance! and also for no. 3, extra yoko uke must be added before gedan barai and no.4, extra yoko uke also must be executed before we do age uke.

I have not reach to my point yet, i.e. actually, the significance is not only to ensure the beginners undertand, appreciate and familiarize with these basic techniques or waza, but actually it has a very important relation with later series of Heian Kata that they need to learn in later kyus, i.e. yellow and above...

So, wait for next article that i love to share!!!

Hope u have gained something from here...

Till then. matta ai masho:-)
